George Frost (politician)

George Frost (born April 26, 1720 in New Castle , Rockingham County , New Hampshire Colony , †  June 21, 1796 in Durham , New Hampshire ) was an American politician who attended the Continental Congress as a delegate from New Hampshire .

As a young man, George Frost entered the business world in Kittery Point , what is now Maine . He was the captain of a merchant ship for 20 years before he settled back in his native New Castle in 1760. In 1770 he moved to Durham, where he embarked on a legal career. Between 1773 and 1791 he served as a judge on the Court of Common Pleas in Strafford County , where he also presided over a longer period as Chief Justice .

From 1777 to 1779 he took his mandate as a delegate to the Continental Congress, the meetings of which took place during this period mainly in Philadelphia and temporarily in York . Between 1781 and 1784 he was a member of the Executive Council of New Hampshire, the governing council of his state. George Frost died in Durham in June 1796 and was buried in Dover .
