life and work

George Hadjimichalis studied painting at Saint Martin's School of Art in London. Hadjimichalis is known for extensive installations made from found objects and archive material.

"What I do is this: in this pigsty we live today, amidst the poverty that plagues the world and the epidemics which afflict humanity, practicing art becomes hugely difficult. So aside from my inner world and from managing myself, my emotions and my relations with the people close to me I try to see, to place myself in relation to the drama around us. If I am to have a truly political reaction, the only thing I can do is to make sure that the art I produce is as personal as possible, not in the sense of style. / What I do is this: In the mess we live in today, in the midst of poverty and epidemics that plague humanity, it is becoming increasingly difficult to practice art. Apart from my inner experience and dealing with my feelings and my personal social environment, it is important to me to relate to the drama around us. As a true political statement, the only thing I can do is make sure my art is as personal as possible and not becoming an art style. "
