George Howell
George Howell (born June 28, 1859 in Scranton , Pennsylvania , † November 19, 1913 there ) was an American politician . In 1903 and 1904 he represented the state of Pennsylvania in the US House of Representatives .
Career
George Howell attended public schools in his home country and then Pennington Seminary in New Jersey . He then graduated from Newton Collegiate Institute in Pennsylvania and Lafayette College in Easton . He graduated from Illinois State University in Normal . He then worked for 14 years in the states of New Jersey and Pennsylvania as a teacher. He was a school councilor in Scranton for seven years. After studying law and being admitted to the bar in 1904, he began practicing this profession in Scranton.
Politically, Howell was a member of the Democratic Party . In the congressional elections of 1902 he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the tenth constituency of Pennsylvania , where he succeeded Republican Henry B. Cassel on March 4, 1903 . The election result was challenged by his opponent, William Connell . When this objection was granted, Howell had to cede his mandate to Connell on February 10, 1904.
Between 1906 and 1908, George Howell was a board member of Scranton Technical High School . He then worked as a school councilor in Scranton until his death on November 19, 1913.
