Henry Burd Cassel (born October 19, 1855 in Marietta , Lancaster County , Pennsylvania , †  April 28, 1926 there ) was an American politician . Between 1901 and 1909 he represented the state of Pennsylvania in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Henry Cassel attended his homeland public schools and the Columbia Classical Institute . Then he worked in wholesaling and in the timber business. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Republican Party . In 1881 he was a member of the district board of his party and in 1893 he was its district chairman. In June 1896, Cassel took part as a delegate to the Republican National Convention in St. Louis , at which William McKinley was nominated as a candidate for president. Between 1898 and 1900 he was a member of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives .

After the death of the MP Marriott Henry Brosius , Cassel was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC when he was due for the by-election for the tenth seat of Pennsylvania , where he took up his new mandate on November 5, 1901. After three re-elections, he could remain in Congress until March 3, 1909 . Since 1903 he represented the ninth electoral district of his state there. From 1905 to 1907 he was chairman of the Committee on Accounts .

After his tenure in the US House of Representatives, Henry Cassel worked in the trade. He also served as a contractual employer ( contractor working), among others in the construction industry. He came into conflict with the law: In 1909 he was convicted of fraud in connection with the construction of the State Capitol of Pennsylvania. He died on April 28, 1926 in his birthplace Marietta.
