George Kerevan

George Kerevan (born September 28, 1949 in Glasgow ) is a Scottish politician of the Scottish National Party (SNP), economist and journalist.

Life

Kerevan was born in Glasgow in 1949. He studied at the University of Glasgow and later worked as a lecturer in economics at Edinburgh Napier University . Kerevan was also active in the media sector. He worked as a journalist and documentary filmmaker for PBS , the History Channel and the Discovery Channel . He was also an associate editor of The Scotsman magazine for nine years . Kerevan is the initiator or co-organizer of various cultural events, including the Edinburgh International Festival and the Edinburgh Science Festival .

Political career

Kerevan was a member of Edinburgh City Council for twelve years. In the British general election in 2015 , he ran for the SNP in the constituency of East Lothian . He competed against Labor MP Fiona O'Donnell , who had represented the constituency in the British House of Commons since 2010 . After the SNP gained massive votes in these elections, Kerevan achieved the highest percentage of votes with 42.5% and subsequently moved into the House of Commons for the first time. There he was a member of the Treasury Committee. With a loss of votes, Kerevan lost his mandate in the early general election in 2017 . This went to the Labor candidate Martin Whitfield .
