George "Kus" Kosana (born December 22, 1935 in Clairton , Pennsylvania , † December 30, 2016 there ) was an American film production manager and actor .

Life

George Kosana was born on December 22, 1935 to Stephen (1911–1946) and Elizabeth Kosana (1915–?) In the small town of Clairton, a few kilometers south of Pittsburgh , which is characterized by the steel industry . In 1968 he was a member of the film production company Image Ten , which produced the horror film The Night of the Living Dead by George A. Romero . As production manager, Kostana was not only a member of the film crew and one of ten investors in the film, but also played the not insignificant supporting role of Sheriff McClelland . The hat that the character he portrayed wore in the film became Kosana's trademark. In the German-language dubbed version of the film, which was only released in German-speaking cinemas in 1971, it was lent the voice by Wolfgang Hess , who became Bud Spencer's voice that same year .

Subsequently, Kosana was also involved in other Image Ten film productions. It also made other film appearances in the romantic comedy There's Always Vanilla , which Romero also directed, and in the sex comedy The Booby Hatch by the director duo Rudy Ricci and John A. Russo . In the decades that followed, it was largely quiet around Kosana, who, however, repeatedly appeared at film and horror conventions . In the meantime Kosana was still involved in the archival material of various productions and was there, among others, in Night of the Day of the Dawn of the Son of the Bride of the Return of the Terror (1991), the Night of the Living Dead: 30th Anniversary Edition (1999), The American Nightmare (2000), Midnight Movies: From the Margin to the Mainstream (2005), Cinemassacre's Monster Madness (1 episode, 2007), Night of the Living Dead: Reanimated (2009), The Dead of Night ( 2010) or Living Dead (2012).

It was not until the 2000s that he was booked again for film productions and appeared in the role of George in the low-budget film Incest Death Squad . In the mid-2010s, the two directors Robert Lucas and John A. Russo, with whom Kosana had worked almost 40 years earlier and whom he had known since childhood, produced the low-budget film My Uncle John Is a Zombie! produced. However, this has not yet been published and has the status TBA (to be announced) (status: 2019). This is where Kosana, who is obviously in poor health, can be seen again in his (partially parodied) role as Sheriff McClelland .

In the last years of his life, Kosana suffered from health problems; In addition to pulmonary emphysema, he had another chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and suffered from macular degeneration . On December 30, 2016, eight days after his 81st birthday, Kosana died in the city of Clairton, Pennsylvania, United States. Kosana was never married in her life, but through his older brother Stephen had a family that lives all over the United States.
