George Lance (born March 24, 1802 in Little Easton , Essex , † June 18, 1864 in Sunnyside near Birkenhead , Merseyside ) was an English painter .
Life
Lance was a student of the painter Benjamin Robert Haydons and often preferred still lifes , such as flower and fruit ensembles , in his work . But Lance was also soon able to make a name for himself in animal painting .
On the advice and support of his teacher, Lance participated for the first time in an exhibition at the Royal Academy of Arts in 1828 ; Encouraged by this debut, Lance attended nearly every one of these annual exhibitions.
His subtle feeling for nature has also made him stand out abroad. The National Gallery (London) owns a still life and two pieces of fruit from him.
