George Godolphin Osborne, 10th Duke of Leeds (born September 18, 1862 , † May 10, 1927 ) was a British aristocrat ( peer ) and politician.

Life

George Osborne was the second eldest son of George Osborne, 9th Duke of Leeds , and Frances Georgiana Pitt-Rivers (1836-1896), daughter of George Pitt-Rivers, 4th Baron Rivers . His older brother George Frederick had died a few days after his birth in 1861. Osborne also had five younger sisters, Harriet Castalia (1867-1922), Alice Susan (1869-1951), Ada Charlotte (1870-1944), Alexandra Louisa (1872-1938) and Constance Blanche (1875-1939), and two younger brothers, Francis (1864-1924) and Albert Edward (1866-1914).

Osborne married Lady Katherine Frances Lambton, daughter of George Lambton, 2nd Earl of Durham , and Lady Beatrix Frances Hamilton in 1884 . They had five children in total:

As heir to the ducal title, Osborne initially held the courtesy title of Earl of Danby until 1872 , then after the death of his grandfather that of a Marquess of Carmarthen . From 1887 to 1896 he was an MP for Brixton in the House of Commons . He completed his military career as a lieutenant in the Yorkshire Hussars and a captain in the Royal Naval Reserve .

When his father died in 1895, he inherited the title of Duke of Leeds . With the Duketitel a hereditary seat in the House of Lords was connected, his seat in the House of Commons he had to give up for this. From 1895 to 1896 he held the office of Treasurer of the Household . From 1921 to 1922 he was the aide-de-camp personal adjutant of King George V. He died in 1927 at the age of 64. His son John Francis Godolphin Osborne followed him as the 11th Duke of Leeds.
