George Otto Wirz
George Otto Wirz (born January 17, 1929 in Monroe , Wisconsin , † November 23, 2010 in Madison , Wisconsin) was an American auxiliary bishop .
Life
George Otto Wirz was ordained a priest on May 31, 1952 . He was the companion of William Patrick O'Connor, Archbishop of Madison, at the first session of the Second Vatican Council in 1962 . In 1963, Wirz became the founding rector of the newly opened Holy Name Seminary in Madison.
In 1977 Pope Paul VI appointed him . to titular bishop of Municipa and appointed him auxiliary bishop in the diocese of Madison . On March 9, 1978 he donated the Archbishop of Madison, Cletus Francis O'Donnell , the episcopal ordination ; Co- consecrators were Jerome Joseph Hastrich , Bishop of Gallup , New Mexico , and Rembert Weakland OSB , Archbishop of Milwaukee . His age-related resignation was granted by Pope John Paul II on February 10, 2004.
