Florence Kasumba (born October 26, 1976 in Kampala , Uganda ) is a German actress , musical artist and voice actress . She performed numerous guest roles on German television until she was consistently seen in the series Deutschland 86 in 2018 and since February 2019 has been the new Tatort commissioner of the NDR at the side of Maria Furtwängler . Internationally she became known in particular through the Marvel Cinematic Universe , in which she appeared in The First Avenger: Civil War , Black Panther and Avengers: Infinity War , and through Wonder Woman .

Life

Kasumba grew up in Essen , has a brother and a sister and lives with her family in Berlin . After graduating from high school, she trained in singing, dance and acting at the Fontys Dansacademie in Tilburg, the Netherlands . Her subjects were ballet , jazz , tap dance , modern jazz , singing , musical repertoire and acting . She sings in a mezzo-soprano voice .

Career

On various stages in Germany and Austria she took on roles in musicals such as The Lion King (as Shenzi), Evita in Klagenfurt , Jesus Christ Superstar (as Soulgirl) in Bad Hersfeld , Mamma Mia! (as Lisa) in Hamburg , Cats (as Bombalurina), West Side Story (as Rosella) in Linz , The Life (as Tracy), Crazy for You (as Tess), Hair (as Tribe) and Die Schöne und das Biest . From 2003 to 2004 she played the title role in Elton John's Aida at the Colosseum Theater Essen.

Kasumba had his first film role in 2001 in the Dutch cinema production Ik ook van jou . On German television she then had several guest roles in television films and series. She took on a leading role in 2011 in the crime scene crime thriller The illegal death . In Tatort Borowski und das Meer , which was broadcast on March 30, 2014, she played a supporting role. In 2016 she played a small role as Chief of Security for T'Challa ( Chadwick Boseman ) in The First Avenger: Civil War . The role was expanded for the film Black Panther under the role name Ayo . In the NBC television series Emerald City - The Dark World of Oz , she played the role of the East , the witch from the east, directed by Tarsem Singh .

In June 2018, the NDR announced that Florence Kasumba (as Anaïs Schmitz ) will in future investigate at the Göttingen crime scene alongside Maria Furtwängler ( Charlotte Lindholm ) . It started on February 3, 2019 in the episode The Disappeared Child .

Florence Kasumba is a member of the German Film Academy .
