Freedom Prize is a three-part German television film that was first broadcast on November 4, 5 and 6, 2019 on Second German Television . The film was awarded the German Television Prize 2020 as best multi-part .

action

The film tells the story of three sisters in the upheaval between 1987 and March 1990. The eldest sister Margot procures foreign currency for the economically troubled GDR from the East Berlin authority “ KoKo ” . The single parent Lotte runs a bookstore and joins the young environmental movement in the GDR. The youngest sister Silvia is considered dead, but lives with a new identity in the West and had to leave her two children behind in the GDR.

The episodes were filmed in Berlin and Prague from September 16, 2018 to February 15, 2019. The premiere of the first episode took place on September 28, 2019 at the 15th Zurich Film Festival . On October 28, 2019, ZDF published the series in its media library.
