In the early morning of the Berlin subway, 38-year-old Mark Haessler was attacked by two young men on a platform and died shortly afterwards. The numerous witnesses are questioned by the team around Chief Inspectors Till Ritter and Felix Stark, pictures are collected from surveillance cameras and cell phones and what is happening on the platform and its history in the subway are meticulously reconstructed. Photos of the perpetrators are published in the press and Haessler, who had come to the aid of a disabled person in the wagon against the two perpetrators, is declared a hero. When forensic medicine found out that the cause of death was not the kicks on the head, but a subsequent heart attack, Konstantin Auerbach, a high school graduate, gave himself up and named the vocational student Achim Wozniak as the person responsible for the bodily harm; the latter in turn accuses Auerbach.
When pictures of the two were presented to the witnesses, their statements contradict each other with regard to the main culprit. However, the Haessler smartphone destroyed by Wozniak was switched on during the fatal attack because the family man spoke a message on his lover's answering machine while he was getting out of the car. There the investigators find the record of the act that Auerbach convicted as a manslaughter.
