The Anrheiner was a TV series of the West German Radio about life in a fictional district of Cologne .

production

The Anrheiner was one of the endless series on German television. The series was a joint production by Zieglerfilm Köln and WDR. The first episode aired on March 21, 1998. Since then, the show has been running weekly. The 500th episode was shown on September 14, 2008. No episodes of the series were broadcast during an annual summer break. The regular slot for the first episode broadcast was on Sundays at 5:45 p.m. on WDR television , with a repeat on the following Sunday at 8:35 a.m.

Filming and sets

The house setting of the series on the banks of the Rhine

The action takes place in Cologne and the film was shot in the Mülheim district . At the port area there (in Hafenstrasse), the entire exterior backdrop was set up. The house setting was not a dummy facade, but consisted of playable buildings in which most of the interior scenes were filmed. Almost all the building complexes were grouped around Römerplatz , the center of the fictional district. The buildings were based on the style of different decades and, like the single-storey shop pavilions from the post-war period, reproduced a typical appearance of many Cologne streets.

The rest of the interior of the houses was in the studio. In the first two years, the film was initially shot in the Westdeutscher Rundfunk studios in Cologne-Bocklemünd , before all the interior sets were moved to a former factory hall of the engine manufacturer KHD (now Deutz AG ) on Deutz-Mülheimer-Strasse in Cologne-Mülheim. In the spring of 2006, the second and last move to a former temporary storage facility for booksellers on Amsterdamer Strasse in Cologne-Riehl followed . The last filming took place on August 29, 2013 on the set. The last episode aired in spring 2014. The exterior backdrop was demolished in December 2013.

action

The action takes place in a Cologne district directly on the Rhine with shops, an inn ( Zum Anrheiner ), a newspaper office, the kiosk ( Büdchen ), a shipping company and various residential buildings. The episodes tell the stories and problems of the residents in a typical Cologne Veedel . The focus of the action threads is the network of people from relationship, family, friendships, their professional and business activities and the entanglements resulting from them in daily life. The people depicted are characters from everyday life. In order to achieve greater authenticity , actors who speak the Rhenish dialect or the Cologne dialect were hired for some of the main characters , such as Tommy Engel , Hildegard Krekel , Samy Orfgen and Ernst Hilbich .

In contrast to Lindenstrasse , the characters in the Anrheinerviertel do not take a stand on political or socially explosive issues. Likewise, no problems and concerns of minorities or so-called fringe groups are incorporated into the plot.

After the death of the series character Matthias Krings, the series concept was completely revised. It was already noticeable several episodes before his exit that crime in the series increased and a police officer was introduced as a supporting character. On May 1, 2011, Die Anrheiner became a case for the Anrheiner with clear crime stories.

occupation

Most roles were played by actors who had completed acting training. You had stage experience at various theaters and have appeared in numerous other television roles. Tommy Engel is also known as a Cologne dialect musician. Many main actors have been in action since the first episodes of the Sunday series.

The well-known popular actress Tana Schanzara also appeared in several story threads and episodes . In episode 608, the body of Mathes Krings (René Toussaint) is found on the Rhine. This storyline was the start of a fundamental change in the series. In the further course of the series was then renamed Ein Fall für die Anrheiner . Most of the actors are involved in this sequel. Lydia von Bebenberg dies in episode 95 of the series. Her body is found in the Rhine.
