Divya Om Prakash Bharti (born February 25, 1974 in Mumbai , Maharashtra , † April 5, 1993 ) was an Indian actress who was successful in many film industries in India, u. a. in Bollywood .

Life

Bharti was born into a Hindu family on February 25, 1974 in Mumbai , India . Her father is the insurance officer Om Prakash Bharti and her mother is his second wife, Meeta Bharti. She had a younger brother, Kunal, and two half-siblings from her father's first marriage. She spoke Hindi , English and Marathi . Her second cousin is the actress Kainaat Arora . She made her debut in Bollywood in 2010 .

Bharti began her career in 1990 with the Telugu film Bobbili Raja . From 1992 she got her first roles in Bollywood. Her first film was Vishwatma with Sunny Deol . Her most successful films include Shola aur Shabnam with Govinda and Deewana - In the Sign of Love with Shah Rukh Khan . She received a Filmfare Award for "Shola aur Shabnam" .

Bharti died on April 5, 1993 at the age of only 19. She fell from the 5th floor of her apartment in Mumbai . Eyewitnesses report seeing Bharti lose his balance and fall. Her death is mistakenly labeled a mystery, as some fans still hold on to it today that her fall was not an accident.

Career

Divya Bharti was discovered in 1988. The filmmaker and brother of Govinda saw her in his neighborhood and signed her. At this point, Bharti was in the ninth grade. Bharti left school at the age of 15 to enter the film business.

In 1990 she was signed by a South Indian film producer for Bobbili Raja . The film was released with Bharti as the lead actress and was one of the most successful films in the Tollywood film industry.

After several successful films in South India, Bharti returned to Mumbai , Bollywood in 1992 . She started her Bollywood career with the film Vishwatma . The film was not very successful, but Bharti's achievement was recognized. In the same year she had her greatest successes with the films Shola aur Shabnam and Deewana - In the sign of love . She received a Filmfare Award . She had a successful career and was hailed as a great young talent in India .

Her last film was Kshatriya . It was released in 1993 just 10 days before her death.

Private life

After Bharti had been told of numerous affairs by the press, she decided to put an end to it by marrying the film producer Sajid Nadiadwala on May 10, 1992 , shortly after she was 18 years old. After the wedding, Bharti changed her name to Sanah Nadiadwala because Nadiadwala is Muslim and she could not marry him with a Hindu name. She continued to work under the name Divya Bharti. It is unclear whether Bharti converted to Islam, but it is believed that she maintained her Hindu belief as she was very religious and continued to visit Hindu temples in Mumbai.

At midnight on April 5, 1993, Bharti fell from the fifth floor of her apartment in Mumbai . A series of press speculations ensued, debating whether Bharti had died of an accident, suicide, or even murder. The police found no evidence of the murder and ended the investigation in 1998. Bharti's family and friends also believe that her death was an accident and rule out suicide. A few days after her death, Bharti was cremated in a Hindu ceremony.

Her last two films, Rang - The Colors of Love and Shatranj , were released months after her death and dedicated to her. At the time of her death, Bharti had started numerous film shoots that were not complete and therefore had to be re-shot by other actresses. Only the South Indian film Tholi Muddu was released, although Bharti could not finish it. The scenes that were still outstanding were completed by the actress Rambha , as she resembled Bharti.
