A case for the people of the Rhine was a television series on West German Radio .

concept

The follow-up series to Die Anrheiner was a case for the Anrheiner . The action continued in the Veedel, where Die Anrheiner also played, but with some changes. For example, the Krings shipping company was dissolved and the police station moved into its premises, which then made up a main part of the series. Another main part of the new Anrheiner was still the Cologne corner pub Zum Anrheiner , which was also an important part of the previous series. Also new are the police canteen, which was then located in the previous little hall of the Anrheiner, and Biggi’s hairdressing salon. The Büdchen, now run by Trudi, and the doctor's office of Dr. Kerstin Steinmann. The premises of the former Rheinblatt were also used as a backdrop by Lydia von Bebenberg, where she worked as a freelance journalist until her serial death in episode 94. After Josef Krings was released from prison, he decided to open his own forwarding agency after several rejections to his applications. To do this, he put Lydia von Bebenberg under pressure to challenge Mathes Krings' legacy. Lydia von Bebenberg got involved with Josef Krings, but under their conditions. Thus, the plan of "Spedition Krings" became "von Bebenberg". The opening of the shipping company was overshadowed by the death of Darius Pawelczik, who died in episode 71 after an accident with a wrong-way driver.

Most of the earlier Anrheiner characters remained in the follow-up series. Some of them got bigger roles or appeared in longer storylines. There were also up to three guest actors in each episode.

At the end of the episode there were no more so-called cliffhangers , but the episodes are self-contained. Instead of up to five storylines per episode, there were now only up to three. This should make it easier for viewers to follow the action.

In the new series, the residents of the Veedel worked hand in hand with the police officers of the new police station to solve criminal cases. The new series can be classified as a crime thriller, but “A Case for the Anrheiner” came out largely without murder. Rather, the focus here was on crimes such as stalking , minor thefts , extortion , etc. In addition, as in the previous series, stories from the everyday life of the protagonists were told.

Filming and sets

The house setting of the series on the banks of the Rhine

The action takes place in Cologne , the shooting takes place in the Mülheim district . The entire exterior backdrop was set up on the port area there (in Hafenstrasse) . The house setting is not a dummy facade , but consists of playable buildings, in which most of the interior scenes are filmed. Almost all the building complexes are grouped around Römerplatz , the center of the fictional district. The buildings are based on the style of different decades and, like the single-storey shop pavilions from the post-war period, reflect a typical appearance of many Cologne streets.

The rest of the interior of the houses is in the studio. Until April 2011, this studio was located in a former interim storage facility for booksellers on Amsterdamer Strasse 206a in Cologne-Niehl .

The last filming took place on August 29, 2013 on the set. The last episode ( As long as the Rhine flows ) was broadcast on March 23, 2014. In this episode, the police chief inspector Elisabeth "Elly" Wagner married her friend Daniel Bach. It was also important to have many positive "outcomes" in the aftermath. Horst and Udo get along again. This is done with the help of Jupp Adamski, who was already involved in the previous series Die Anrheiner . Kalle Westphal leaves for Uschi in Australia, and Elly Wagner is promoted to police chief inspector. In the final scene, Jupp Adamski says goodbye to the audience personally, looking back over the past 16 years. The exterior backdrop was demolished in December 2013.
