George Petean (* 1976 in Cluj-Napoca , Romania ) is a Romanian opera singer ( baritone ).

Life

Petean attended the music school and the Gheorghe Dima music academy in his birthplace. He made his stage debut in 1997 with the title role from Don Giovanni at the Opera in Cluj-Napoca. As a soloist he sang Silvio in I Pagliacci , Ford in Falstaff and Figaro in Il Barbiere di Siviglia .

His international breakthrough came in Rome with La Bohème . Petean is now making guest appearances at opera houses all over Europe; in London he sang under the direction of Plácido Domingo at the Royal Opera House in Covent Garden . In 1999 Petean was awarded the “Grand Prize” of the Hariclea Darclée international singing competition in Braila / Romania. From the 2002/2003 season to 2010, Petean was a member of the Hamburg State Opera ensemble .
