Georg Ruger

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

George Rüger (also Georgius Rüger, Georg Ruger ; * approx. 1485; † July 28, 1559 in Dresden ) was a Saxon civil servant, Dresden councilor and mayor .

Life

Nothing is known about Rüger's origins. He is mentioned for the first time in 1540 in the Dresden Council Directory. In 1541 he took over the office of judge, which was traditionally transferred to a younger councilor because of the high workload. Professionally he worked as an innkeeper and in 1542 owner of the Gasthof zum Goldenen Hirsch near the Altmarkt .

A little later, Ruger gave up his seat on the council and switched to serving the sovereign as electoral kitchen and fish master . Only in 1554 is Rüger mentioned again as a member of the council and in 1557 took over the office of the ruling mayor of the city. From 1558 he was also Jobst Kettwig's successor to the Maternihospital . In that year, his son Hans Rüger also received Dresden citizenship. After his father's death on July 28, 1559 (at the age of 74), he also became a member of the council in 1564. Rüger was buried in the church of our dear women in Dresden.

"Anno 1559. On July 28th at 2 pm in God the merciful and well-behaved Mr. George Rüger fell asleep, once Duke Georgen, Duke Moritzen and Duke Augusto, with the Duke and Elector of Saxony, chef and fish master, also of this city Mayor of Dresden, 74 years old, gracious to God Almighty, graciously bestow him and all of us a cheerful rise, Amen.
