George Talbot, 6th Earl of Shrewsbury KG (around 1528 - November 18, 1590 ) was an English nobleman .

He was the only son of Francis Talbot, 5th Earl of Shrewsbury and his first wife Mary Dacre.

In February 1547 he was made Knight of the Bath . By Writ of Acceleration of January 5, 1553 he inherited the subordinate paternal title Baron Talbot prematurely and was appointed to the House of Lords . When his father died in 1560, he inherited his other nobility titles. In 1561 he was accepted into the Order of the Garter.

From 1569 he was Guardian of Mary Queen of Scots during the 14 years of her captivity in Sheffield . After the death of Thomas Howard, 4th Duke of Norfolk on June 2, 1572, he was transferred to his state office of Earl Marshal of England on January 2, 1573 .

His first marriage was on April 28, 1539, Lady Gertrude Manners († 1567), daughter of Thomas Manners, 1st Earl of Rutland . He had six children with her:

After the death of his first wife, he married the second marriage as her fourth husband on February 9, 1568, the rich widow Bess of Hardwick . This marriage remained childless.

His son Gilbert also inherited his title Baron Talbot prematurely on January 28, 1589 by Writ of Acceleration and followed him in the other titles on his death in 1590.

His grave is in Shrewsbury Chapel in Sheffield Cathedral .
