George Vârnav-Liteanu

George Vârnav-Liteanu (* 1840 ; † 1905 ) was a Romanian   diplomat .

Career

He was a literary critic and from 1870 a member of the Junimea writers' association. From 1878 he was diplomatic representative in Berlin, where he supported the policy of Mihail Kogălniceanu , with whom he was related. He had traveled to Paris in his youth and was influenced by French culture, supporting the theory of "incomparable form". From April 1878 to October 21, 1888 he was political agent of the Romanian government in Berlin .

On February 20, 1880, the Bismarck cabinet with the governments in Paris and London recognized the government of Ion C. Brătianu and agreed to upgrade the diplomatic agency in Berlin to an embassy. Until diplomatic relations were agreed and the agency was converted into an embassy, ​​it was led by Theodor Rosetti (1872–1874), Nicolae Creţulescu (1874–1876), Titu Maiorescu (1876), Al Degré (1876–1878) and Virnav Litenau (1878–1880).
