George W. Coats

George Wesley Coats (born August 13, 1936 in Knox City , USA, † April 6, 2006 in Houston ) was an American professor of the Old Testament . In the 1970s he worked with Gerhard von Rad , Walther Zimmerli and Ernst Güttgemanns . He has taught at Heidelberg University , Hamburg and the Hebrew University of Jerusalem , among others .

biography

Coats received his theological training from McMurry College , the Perkins School of Theology, and Yale . He then began his career at Lexington Theological Seminary . A brain tumor and the resulting psychological problems forced him to retire from science early in 1992.

Works

From the collaboration with Güttgemanns, the occupation with narratology arose as an aspect of his work .
