Georges Bavaud

Georges Bavaud (* 1923 ; † June 25, 2007 in Freiburg im Üechtland ) was a Swiss Roman Catholic priest, theologian, dogmatist and ecumenist.

Life

Georges Bavaud was Professor of Dogmatics at the University of Friborg (Switzerland) and a specialist in ecumenical relations. In 1993 he retired . In 1964 he co-founded the Institute for Ecumenical Studies at the University of Freiburg and worked there until his death.

He was canon of St. Nicholas' Cathedral in Freiburg.

Bavaud was considered a competent and valued dialogue partner in the field of ecumenism . He valued the thoughts and ecumenical positions of Paul Couturier and Maurice Villain, as well as Augustin Cardinal Bea .
