Georges Chenet

Georges Chenet (born June 13, 1881 in Cumières , Meuse , † May 31, 1951 in Agen , Lot-et-Garonne ) was a French provincial Roman archaeologist .

Life

Georges Chenet was actually a tiler in Le Claon , Meuse, and mayor of this village. Together with his father-in-law, the doctor and archaeologist Jules Meunier (1852-1924), he researched the Roman remains in the Argonne , in particular the terra sigillata pottery from the 2nd to 4th centuries, and carried out fundamental research on the Argonne sigillata .

From 1931 he also undertook excavations in Ugarit ( Syria ) with Claude Schaeffer .
