Georges Fouré

Georges Fouré (born October 5, 1843 in Paris , † September 9, 1902 in Paris) was a Franco-German philatelist and stamp forger .

Life

In 1852 Fouré came to Berlin with his mother Marie Pauline . Between 1865 and 1872 he stayed in France again and then worked as a language teacher and translator in Berlin and traded in postage stamps. He was the founder and editor of the "Berliner Illustrierte Briefmarken-Zeitung" from approx. 1877 to 1887. Fouré is characterized by his expertise in old German envelopes and forged them. He imitated no actually existing Stamps by, but even created new brands and stamp imprints using original printing plates, paper stock and partly original colors. Since these things could not be bought in stores, accomplices were suspected to be from the Reichsdruckerei workforce . Carl Lindenberg and Franz Kalckhoff together uncovered his forgeries.
