Georges Franceschetti (born March 16, 1948 in Bastia ) is a former French football player .

Career

Franceschetti grew up in Corsica and played there from the age of 17 for the SEC Bastia , where he first appeared for the second team. After his military service, he moved up to the second division team Bastias at the beginning of the 1967/68 season and completed two games for these before he was awarded to league rivals AS Cannes in November 1967 , where he became a regular. After his return to the now promoted Bastia, he was able to fight for a regular place in the top French league during the season 1968/69. At first he was one of a team that was fighting for relegation before they could increasingly establish themselves under coach Pierre Cahuzac in the following years. In addition, she managed to move into the Cup final in 1972 , in which Franceschetti led the players as team captain, but in the end had to accept a 1: 2 defeat against Olympique Marseille .

It was the same club that signed him after the final. In the first division he had to fight mainly with the competition from the French international Jacques Novi , even if Franceschetti continued to make regular appearances; he also ran for the first time in the UEFA Cup . Despite everything, he decided in 1974 after two years to return to SEC Bastia, with whom he continued to compete in the first division and was allowed to occupy his regular place again. Due to the arrival of Jean-François Larios and Félix Lacuesta , however, he lost this in 1977, so that he could not get beyond occasional assignments. He was involved in reaching the UEFA Cup final in 1978 , but was not used in either of the finals; since his teammates failed at PSV Eindhoven , Franceschetti did not win a single title in his career. Following the final, he ended his career at the age of 30 after 280 first division games with 30 goals and 24 second division games without a goal and did not return to professional football in any other position.
