Georges F. Garmou (born December 8, 1921 in Tel Keppe near Mosul , Iraq ; † September 9, 1999 ) was Archbishop of the Chaldean Catholic Archeparchy of Mosul .

Life

Georges Garmou studied from 1934 at the Chaldean seminary in Baghdad and from 1939 in Rome , where he was ordained a priest on December 8, 1945 . He completed a doctorate at the Pontifical Urban University . In 1949 he became rector of the Chaldean seminary. In 1964 he became pastor of Mother of God Parish in Southfield , Michigan.

Pope John Paul II. Appointed him in 1980 as archbishop of archeparchy Mosul. The episcopal ordination on September 14, 1980 was donated to him by Paul Cheikho , the Patriarch of Babylon of the Chaldean Catholic Church; Co-consecrators were the Bishop of Beirut, Raphael I. Bidawid , and the Bishop of Alquoch, Abdul-Ahad Sana .

He died of complications from cancer .
