Georges Ohnet

Georges Ohnet , actually Georges Hénot , (born April 3, 1848 in Paris , † May 5, 1918 ibid) was a French editor , journalist and writer .

Life

When the political situation normalized again after the Franco-Prussian War , Ohnet was appointed editor of the Paris newspapers Le Constitutionnel and Le Pays . In addition to this task, Ohnet was also able to do journalistic work in various other newspapers and magazines, such as B. Gil Blas .

In 1875, Ohnet also created the play Regina Carpi in collaboration with Louis Denayrouze . With the stage play Marthe , both were able to repeat this success two years later.

Ohnet was a great admirer of the writer George Sand and vehemently rejected the contemporary "realistic novel". With his novel cycle Les batailles de la vie he wrote himself in the hearts of his audience; official literary criticism categorically rejected it as trivial literature . But other of his novels - also in a dramatized form on stage - mostly failed the criticism. The editions of his books spoke a different language, and so after a while Ohnet was able to buy the Chateau Des Bondons near La Ferté-sous-Jouarre ( Seine-et-Marne department ).

Georges Ohnet died five weeks after his 70th birthday on May 5, 1918 in Paris, where he also found his final resting place.
