Georges Slodzian (born April 29, 1934 ) is a French physicist .

Slodzian was a professor at the University of Paris-South in Orsay . He was a student of Raimond Castaing in Toulouse in 1956 and was supposed to observe the generation of secondary electrons when matter was bombarded with ions , whereby he unexpectedly discovered secondary ions. When Castaing went to Orsay, Slodzian followed him and in 1960 he developed a secondary ion mass spectrometer with Castaing . It was presented in 1962 and Slodzian's dissertation was carried out in 1963 . The devices were further developed by the Cameca company (in competition with the developments in the USA, started by Richard Herzog and Helmut Liebl , which also led to patent litigation). He also developed secondary ion micro-sample instruments and microscopes .

In 1986 he received the Prix Ampère , in 1976 the Prix Jean Ricard . In 1982 he became a corresponding member of the Académie des Sciences .
