Georges de Bièvre , full name Georges François Maréchal Marquis de Bièvre , (born November 13, 1747 in Paris , † October 24, 1789 in Triesdorf ) was a French writer.

Life

Georges de Bièvre belonged to the king's bodyguard and was known for his witty puns, comedies and novels. On November 4, 1783, his comedy Le séducteur was performed in Fontainebleau , Louis XVI. was present at the premiere. In the summer of 1789 de Bièvre traveled to England and from there via Ostend and Spa as well as several German states to the margraviate of Ansbach , from where he probably wanted to continue to Italy. Presumably Alexander von Ansbach got to know the writer during one of his winter stays in Paris; it can be assumed, however, that de Bièvre came to Triesdorf at the invitation of Lady Craven . Two years earlier she had set up a learned society and a lovers' theater there. Elizabeth Craven wrote in her Memoirs of the Margravine of Anspach , published in 1826:

“Monsieur de Bièvre […] very much wanted to see my actors. I will never forget the horror of Countess von Ahlefeldt and a few others who trembled at the thought of playing in front of this witty man. "

Bièvre died in Triesdorf of a smallpox infection that he may have contracted in London . His grave monument in the form of a step pyramid, which is crowned by a vase or urn, is located in the Ornbauer cemetery of St. Jakob , as he could not be buried as a Catholic in the Protestant margraviate of Ansbach. Ornbau, on the other hand, belonged to the Catholic Hochstift Eichstätt . When the Ornbauer monument was erected is unknown; however, its inscription indicates that Anna Pas de Vassal was the client. The Ansbach Minister Carl Friedrich Reinhard Freiherr von Gemmingen-Guttenberg was probably the client. The text of the Latin inscription reads:

The inscription

"M. Georgi. Francisci. Marechalli. March: De Bievre. Viri. Ingenio. Dignitate. Morum. Urbanitate. Insignia. Regim. Equitum. Gallicorum. Ducis. Castrorumque. Regiorum. Praefecti. Ord: St. Ludovici. Wilhelm Pülz created a very free translation :

“Forgotten about the world, a man rests here in the sandy bottom, who held an important position as a master of fine puns at the court of the last French king. Wanderer, remember Georges François de Bièvre! Outstanding for the power of his spirit and the dignity and mildness of his manners, colonel of a cavalry regiment, fortress commander and knight of the Order of St. Ludwig ( Ordre royal et militaire de Saint-Louis ), he died on the journey of illness, far from his fatherland, on October 24th, 1789. This monument created pain and friendship. "

novel

Wilhelm Pältz wrote a novel entitled The Tomb in Franconia about Georges de Bièvre.
