The ё-mobil , Ë -mobil or yo -mobil ( Russian ё-мобиль , pronounced: jo-mobil ), was a Russian hybrid electric vehicle . With this pure serial hybrid, the drive power comes only from electric motors , which are operated by a generator from a continuously running (gas, petrol or diesel) rotary piston engine . A super capacitor is used for buffering . In terms of size, the ё-mobil corresponds to the Toyota Yaris , the Hyundai Getz and the Ford Ka .

Series production of this vehicle was planned for the second half of 2014, for which a suitable factory site was selected in 2012.
In April 2014, however, the sale of the project to the Russian government was reported as "... the decline in the auto market makes it impossible to continue and make a profit." The project was later completely discontinued.

history

The development of a city car with hybrid drive was initiated by the Russian-Belarusian holding company “Yarovit Motors” and later presented to the entrepreneur and billionaire Mikhail Prokhorov . A collaboration between "Yarovit Motors" and Mikhail Prokhorov began earlier, and in 2004 special trucks from "Yarovit" were used at Norilsk Nickel , of which he was a partner.

Project development

At the first presentation on April 12, 2010, the Russian investor group Onexim and “Yarovit Motors” announced the start of the project for the city car with hybrid drive. The new company “Gorodskoj Avtomobil” was founded, in which ONEXIM holds 51% and Yarovit Motors shares 49%. The development budget up to the start of series production was 150 million euros.

The new car was presented on October 12th. Two models were shown that have four seats and are based on the same platform. The first model is a hatchback for the family, the second model, a cross-coupé , is aimed at young people.

The design of the exterior and interior comes from the designer Andrej Trofimchuk. The Belarusian designer Vladimir Cesler proposed the two-tone paintwork, following on from an earlier project by the company “Russkij Avtomobilnyj Disajn” (translated: Russian automobile design ). The color ivory should remain unchanged, while the second color is variable. The design should establish itself as a stylistic symbol of the manufacturer and at the same time symbolize the hybrid concept.

The name for the car was selected and published from numerous suggestions as part of a competition “This is how I call the city car” on November 9, 2010, as was the brand logo, which, like the name, comes from Cesler.

As planned, three working prototypes of the hybrid car were presented on December 13, 2010 - ё-minivan, ё-transporter and cou-cross-coupé. For presentation purposes, the bodies were mounted on simple steel frames and two-cylinder four-stroke engines of the type MPE750 from the German manufacturer Weber were used for the drive.

Production planning

On February 15, 2011, the start of construction of a first plant near the town of Marjino in Leningrad Oblast was announced. The capacity of the plant should be 10,000–20,000 cars per year, with the possibility of increasing the capacity to 40,000–50,000 later. As a result, five more plants should be built in Russia. In addition, the construction of a factory for the production of individual components was planned in order to guarantee the supply of up to 100,000 cars per year with spare parts. [outdated]

Design change

On February 21, 2011, an optimized version of the "ё-Cross Coupé" was presented, which took into account the wishes of visitors to ё-mobil exhibitions. The main focus of the body changes is on comfort: The wheelbase of the car was retained, but a five-seater with five doors was made out of it, although the name “Coupé” remained. The front seats were moved forward thanks to the shortened hood and the rear bench, thanks to the higher roof, moved backwards. This created more seating space. The space in the trunk has been increased to 450 liters (previously 400 liters); when the rear bench is folded down, it increases to 1100 l. The slight change in the body has hardly any effect on the dimensions: length: 4100 mm (old: 4065 mm), height: 1550 mm (old: 1495 mm), ground clearance: 210 mm (old: 200 mm). The overhang angle has changed significantly from 20 ° to 27 ° at the front and from 28 ° to 30 ° at the rear.

A survey in the blog of the developers "ё-Avto" showed that the majority welcomed the changes.

Delay and end

In September 2012 it was announced that the project would be delayed by two years due to delays at a supplier.

With the sale of the project to the public sector, which had injected considerable funding, the project was terminated in April 2014 without a pre-series sample having made it onto the street.

technology

The car was to be built in the three body versions mentioned above. Petrol, gas ( methane or a mixture of propane and butane ) should be used as fuel . The main source of energy is a permanently running rotary piston engine that drives the electric generator. The energy produced is stored in a supercapacitor and fed to the two electric motors - one for each axle - which drive the wheels by means of differential gears, which ensures permanent all-wheel drive and thus good traction even in poor road or weather conditions. All electrical units are controlled by a specially developed computer system that ensures few cable connections. The dashboard is equipped with an electronic display and a touch screen .

Furnishing

As of December 2010, the following equipment was provided for all models:

  • Body made of polypropylene - composite

Special features of the ë-mobil

  • The number of parts and assemblies is to be radically reduced (2 to 2.5 times less than in a common contemporary car)
  • Modular construction consisting of 400 interchangeable modules, which allows the car to be manufactured, serviced and repaired easily. Furthermore, an easier adaptation to the future innovative developments and to the individual needs of the owner is achieved.
  • At the beginning of the developments, a body made of a spatial aluminum frame in combination with body parts made of basalt fibers was planned, but later a decision was made in favor of a load-bearing structure made of composite material based on polypropylene. The developers speak of much better strength properties and resistance to cold than is the case with metals; The production costs should be much lower, which is connected with the special features of the production process from the gas raw materials. In November 2010 one of the European agencies planned to carry out a crash test. The work on the body is carried out by the Magna company, according to the project developers. It is also stated that the body will meet all European requirements with regard to the passive safety of the occupants. This is to be achieved primarily through the honeycomb design of the parts and the support structure of the body, which will ensure that the energy is absorbed and dampened by the entire body in the event of an impact. The repairability of such a solution is not valued (after serious damage it may be necessary to replace the entire body), although this fact fits into the concept of building and repairing a modular vehicle. The individual modules are made to order by the manufacturer and installed by the service centers.
  • A unit of 100 kg supercapacitors is used to store the energy and is located under the rear bench. It should take approximately ten minutes to fully charge the unit.
  • The developers explain the electronic locking of the top speed at 130 km / h with the wish to minimize the number of fatal road accidents. They also expect that this limitation will soon be regulated by law in many places.
  • Service intervals: 40,000 km
  • Engine life: 1 million km
  • Price: 350,000 to 450,000 rubles (about € 9,000-11,500)
  • The production of the vehicles will take place in the domestic mini plants with the annual capacity of 10,000 cars.
  • The Euro 5 standard is to be achieved in that the burning of the fuel in the toroidal chamber of the engine, where the pistons are located, is not accompanied by an inflow of oil. The combustion takes place “dry”. The concept of the rotary piston engine presented provides a possibility of "smooth" rotation, in which the oil-cooled precision pistons interact with the surface of the combustion chamber by means of temperature-resistant rings made of fluoropolymer .
