Georgi Sergeyevich Martynov

Georgi Sergeyevich Martynov ( Russian Георгий Сергеевич Мартынов , scientific. Transliteration Georgy Sergeevič Martynov , born on October 2 . Jul / 15. October  1906 greg. In Grodno , died on 26. October 1983 ) was a Russian science fiction -author of the Soviet era .

Life

Martynov's father was a railroad engineer. In 1920 the parents separated, from then on Martynov lived with his mother and sister and began working as a repair worker on the railway in Yekaterinodar . In 1927 the family moved to Leningrad, and Martynov entered a military school. In 1931 he had to quit military service because of an accident in which he lost 80% of his hearing and then worked as an electrician in a Leningrad company, where he soon became foreman and finally head of the electrical appliances division. In 1932 he married. In March 1938 he became a candidate for the Communist Party and in March 1941 a member. In the same year he graduated from the Chernomyrdin Polytechnic University. From September 1941 to October 1945 he was a soldier in the Great Patriotic War and was awarded the Red Star . In his later years he suffered from increasing numbness.

In 1955 he published his first novel, which was published in German translation in the GDR under the title 220 Days in Space Ships. It deals with a journey by Soviet cosmonauts to Mars against the backdrop of the space race .
