Georgi Traikow , actually Georgi Traikow Girowski , ( Bulgarian Георги Трайков ; born April 8, 1898 in Werbeni , † January 14, 1975 in Sofia ) was a Bulgarian politician.

Life

Traikow joined the Bulgarian Peasant People's League in 1919 . During the Bulgarian June coup in 1923, he led farmers Gara Gebedsches against the coup. He was arrested but released in 1924. Traikov took over the role of secretary of the Bulgarian Peasant Youth Association . More arrests followed. In 1943 he was one of the founders of the Fatherland Front in Varna . From 1945 to 1947 he was chairman of the administrative board of the Bauernvolksbund. He was also secretary of the National Council of the Patriotic Front.

In 1946 he took over the post of Bulgarian Minister of Agriculture, which he held until 1949. From 1949 to 1964 he was the first deputy chairman of the Bulgarian Council of Ministers. Between 1964 and 1971 he was Chairman of the Presidium of the People's Assembly, 1971/1972 Chairman of the People's Assembly. For many years, from 1947 to 1974, he was secretary of the Bauernvolksbund.

In 1972 he became the first deputy chairman of the Bulgarian State Council . He held the office until November 1974. In 1972 he also became chairman of the National Council of the Fatherland Front. In November 1974 he was made honorary chairman.

Traikov was awarded the Order of Lenin , the International Lenin Peace Prize , as a Hero of the People's Republic of Bulgaria , as a Hero of Socialist Work and the Order of Georgi Dimitrov .
