Georgia-Pacific is a US company in the lignocellulose fiber processing industry, one of the world's largest manufacturers and marketers of wood pulp , tissue , cardboard , paper , packaging and cellulose-based building materials ( plywood , plasterboard ).

Atlanta headquarters

The company is based in Atlanta in the US state of Georgia . Georgia-Pacific employs over 50,000 people at around 300 locations in North and South America and other countries, including many countries in Europe.

Georgia-Pacific was founded in 1927 by Owen Cheatham as wholesale with timber from hardwoods (Georgia Hardwood Lumber Company) in Augusta (Georgia) founded. Numerous takeovers of other companies followed.

Georgia-Pacific was listed as a public company on the New York Stock Exchange ( NYSE ) from 1949 to 2005 . Georgia-Pacific has been a wholly owned subsidiary of Koch Industries since 2005 .
