Georgiy Tabunşçik

Georgiy Tabunşçik ( Russian Георгий Дмитриевич Табунщик ; born August 1, 1939 in Copceac , then Romania ) is a Moldovan politician. He was head of government ("Başkan") of the Autonomous Republic of Gagauzia from 1995 to 1999 and again from 2002 to 2006 .

Life

Georgiy Tabunşçik is an ethnic gagause . He went to school in Taraclia , first studying agricultural engineering in Chișinău , before later studying philosophy in Chișinău. He was involved in the Communist Party of the Soviet Union and rose to the highest party structures of the Moldovan SSR by the end of the 1980s . From 1980 to 1990 he was a member of the Moldovan Supreme Soviet.

In 1990 his home region of Gagauzia de facto split off from the Republic of Moldova, but after negotiating an autonomy agreement at the end of 1994 it was reintegrated into Moldova. On June 19, 1995 Tabunşçik was elected head of government ("Başkan") of Gagauzia and held this position until 1999 when he resigned his office to Dmitriy Kroytor . From 2001 to 2002 he was a member of the Moldovan Parliament.

In 2002 Tabunşçik was re-elected as head of Gagauzia's government and remained in office until December 29, 2006. In the 2006 election, however, he was only third and then handed over the official duties to Mihail Formuzal .
