Gerald Joseph Yorke
Gerald Joseph Yorke (born December 10, 1901 in Tewkesbury , † April 29, 1983 ) was a British writer .
Life
Family and career
Yorke was the second son of Vincent Wodehouse Yorke and Maud Evelyn Wyndham. In 1937 he married Angela Vivien Duncan and they had three children: John Sarne, Vincent James and Michael Piers. He attended Eton College and then Trinity College , Cambridge University , where he earned a Bachelor of Arts . He joined the Territorial Army and served in the 21st Gloucestershire Hussars in 1922, later receiving the rank of major .
China
In the 1930s he was in China for two years, where he was a correspondent for Reuters . His travels with his servant Li often went through areas plagued by robbers and were part of his book China Changes . The Times adventurer and correspondent Peter Fleming (writer) in his one's company comments on his trip. Back in the UK in Fort Hampton Yorke was the personal representative of the West of the thirteenth Dalai Lama Thubten Gyatsho and wrote the foreword to a secret book about the Kalachakra - Initiation .
Aleister Crowley
Yorke was a member of the A∴A∴ , a magical order founded by Aleister Crowley , and was called Frater Volo Intelligere. He collected a large number of Crowley's first editions, manuscripts and documents and later donated this collection to the Warburg Library , which has kept it to this day. Towards the end of Crowley's life, he was known as his main student.
