Gerald Riggs Antonio (* 6. November 1960 in Tullos , Louisiana ) is a former American American football poker players in the position of running backs . Between 1982 and 1991 he played for the Atlanta Falcons and the Washington Redskins in the National Football League (NFL).

Early years

Riggs went to high school in Las Vegas , Nevada . He later went to Arizona State University . Here he managed to run 2,086 yards (17 touchdowns ) and take 50 passes for 550 yards for the college football team between 1978 and 1981 .

NFL

Atlanta Falcons

Riggs was selected in the first round of the 1982 NFL Draft as the ninth player by the Atlanta Falcons . In the 1985 season , he ran 1,719 yards, which is his personal best. From 1985 to 1987 he was elected to the Pro Bowl three times in a row . In his seven years for the Atlanta Falcons, he ran 6,631 yards, which is still the franchise record to this day . In total, he scored 48 touchdowns for the Falcons.

Washington Redskins

From the 1989 season he played for three years with the Washington Redskins . In those three years he scored 21 touchdowns, including 11 in his final season. He ran a total of 1,557 yards for the Redskins. In his last season he also reached the Super Bowl XXVI with the Redskins , which was also won 37:24 against the Buffalo Bills . In this game Riggs scored two touchdowns and thus contributed significantly to the title win.

Personal

His son, Cody Riggs, is also a professional American football player. He currently plays for the Orlando Apollos in the Alliance of American Football (AAF) as cornerback . Gerald Riggs Jr. , his eldest son, is also a former football running back who was under contract with the Miami Dolphins and the Chicago Bears , but could not assert himself in the NFL and was not used. He later moved to the Canadian Football League for the Toronto Argonauts .
