Gerald Spring Rice, 6th Baron Monteagle of Brandon (born July 5, 1926 - † November 17, 2013 in Amesbury , Wiltshire ) was a British peer and politician .

Life

Gerald Spring Rice, 6th Baron Monteagle of Brandon, was born to Charles Spring Rice, 5th Baron Monteagle of Brandon (1887-1946) and his wife Emilie Frances de Kosenko († 1981). After the death of his father on December 9, 1946, he inherited the title of Baron Monteagle of Brandon .

He attended Harrow School and was an officer, ultimately a captain , in the Irish Guards from 1945 to 1955 . He was stationed in Palestine . After retiring from the military, he worked at the London Stock Exchange (1958–1976) and for Lloyd’s (1978–1998). He was a member of the Honorable Corps of Gentlemen at Arms (1978–1996).

He lived in Brandon , County Kerry for many years . In 2003 he lived on his estate in Glenamara, near the village of Stradbally, in County Waterford , Ireland .

He died “peacefully” in November 2013 at the age of 87 at his home in Amesbury, Wiltshire. The funeral took place on December 3, 2013; the memorial service was at St Mary & St Melor Church in Amesbury. Heir to the title is his only son, Charles James Spring Rice, 7th Baron Monteagle of Brandon (* 1953).

Membership in the House of Lords

With the inheritance of the title Baron Monteagle of Brandon , Spring Rice became a member of the House of Lords on December 9, 1946 . He took his official oath on April 25, 1989. In the House of Lords he sat for the Conservative Party . In Hansard are few verbal contributions by Gerald Spring Rice from the years 1992, 1993 and documented the 1996th In December 1996, he last spoke in the House of Lords. In the 1997/98 session, it was present on 60 days. His membership in the House of Lords ended on November 11, 1999 by the House of Lords Act 1999 .

family

Spring Rice married Anne Brownlow (* 1928) on May 28, 1949, the only daughter of Colonel Guy James Brownlow and his wife Elinor Hope Georgina Scott. He was married to his wife for 64 years. The marriage had four children, a son and three daughters.
