Gerald Strand

Gerald Strang (born February 13, 1908 in Claresholm , Alberta ( Canada ), † February 13, 1983 in Loma Linda , California ) was an American composer of Canadian origin.

Strang studied at Stanford University , the University of Southern California and the University of California and was a student of Charles Koechlin , Arnold Schönberg and Ernst Toch in 1935 . From 1936 to 1938 he worked as Schönberg's assistant at UCLA. He then taught at various colleges and universities in California and became a lecturer in electronic music in Los Angeles in 1969 .

In addition to electronic and computer music, he composed a. a. two symphonies and a symphonic picture, a concerto grosso, an intermezzo and a cello concerto.
