Gerard Zerbold van Zutphen , also Gerhard Zerbolt (* 1367 in Zutphen , † December 4, 1398 in Windesheim Monastery near Zwolle ) was a Dutch late medieval theologian , writer and one of the protagonists of the spiritual movement Devotio moderna .
Life
After theological and canonical studies, Gerard Zerbold joined the fraternal house of the brothers from living together in Deventer around 1384 . There he worked as a librarian, clerk and confessor in the Fraterhaus. On December 4, 1398 he died at the age of thirty-one in the monastery of the Windesheim Canons near Zwolle , according to tradition, of the plague. The aftermath of his works is judged differently.
