Gerardo Cantu

Gerardo Cantú (born May 12, 1934 in Nueva Rosita , Coahuila ) is a Mexican painter.

biography

Cantú studied first from 1950 in the workshop for fine arts of the Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León (UANL) and then from 1955 to 1958 at the Escuela Nacional de Pintura, Escultura y Grabado "La Esmeralda" (ENPEG) in Mexico City . In 1958 he went to Prague on a scholarship and later to Paris . In 1962 he returned to Mexico, initially teaching at the UANL, then went to Mexico City and worked there for the Museo Nacional de Antropología and the Museo de la Ciudad de México (MCM). From 1979 to 1980 he taught as a professor for drawing and painting at ENPEG. At the end of 1985 he went to Monterrey , where one year later he became director of fine arts at the Instituto de Cultura de Nuevo León (ICNL) and, in 1987, director of the local workshop for plastic experimentation.

Cantú showed his pictures in several solo exhibitions, including the Palacio de Bellas Artes and the Museo Metropolitano de Monterrey.
