Gerardo Werthein (born December 3, 1955 ) is an Argentine veterinarian, finance manager and sports official.

General

Gerardo Werthein was born on December 3, 1955 as a member of the Werthein family . The doctor of veterinary medicine also works as a businessman and entrepreneur for his family business. Between 1984 and 1986 he was CEO of the Finca Flichman winery. From 1986 to 1993 he was the financial director of Banco Mercantil Argentino and from 1994 to 2009 he was the chairman of the board of Caja de Ahorro y Seguro, the largest insurance holding in Argentina. He is also the vice chairman of Telecom Argentina .

Career as a sports official

Gerardo Werthein was active as an equestrian. For 18 years he took part in international show jumping shows. Werthein is the president of the Argentine Equestrian Association and the organizing committee of the American Show Jumping Championships in 1997. In 2000 he traveled as Chef D'Equipe with the Argentine riding team to the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney . In the same function, he took part in the 2002 World Equestrian Games in Jerez de la Frontera , the Pan American Games 2003 in Santo Domingo , the Olympic Games in Athens in 2004 , the World Equestrian Games in 2006 in Aachen and the Olympic Games in Beijing in 2008 . Werthein has been the President of the Argentine NOK since 2009.

Activities within the IOC

Gerardo Werthein was elected an IOC member in 2011. Within the IOC he was involved in several commissions. From 2012 to 2014 he was a member of the Radio and TV Commission, and from 2014 to 2015 of the TV Rights and New Media and Press Commission. He has been a member of the Marketing Commission since 2014. He headed the Radio and TV Commission from 2014 to 2015.
