Gerardus Winterstein (* 13. September 1740 in Kissingen , Lower Franconia , † 24. November 1805 in Würzburg ) was a German Benedictine - Abt .

Life

Johann Michael Winterstein was 49th and the last abbot of the Benedictine monastery of St. Stephan in Würzburg. On August 20, 1763 he entered the Benedictine order under the name Gerhard (Gerardus) and was ordained a priest on April 4, 1767 . Twenty years later he was elected abbot on March 27, 1787. By redesigning the abbey church in classicist style around 1792, he set a monument for himself, the interior decoration, which was burned on March 16, 1945, was created by his brother Johann Georg W.
