The Gerbergasse (also Gärbergasse ; Italian Via Conciapelli ) is a street in the old town area of the South Tyrolean capital Bozen .

The irregularly winding and winding street continues the Raingasse , starting from Friedl-Volgger- Platz, and connects it via Piavestrasse, into which Gerbergasse merges, with Zwölfmalgreiner Platz (customs bar).

Just like the Raingasse, the Gerbergasse marked the old southern end of the medieval town center of Bozen , which sloped down towards the lowlands of the Eisack .

The name comes from the tanneries that used to be located here , which used the water of the urban Mühlbach streams, usually left-hand drains from the Talfer , to carry out their trade. Such a mill stream is still preserved as an enclosed watercourse in the Mühlgasse, which branches off to the north from Gerbergasse.

The oldest name of the area was Gurmental or Wurmtal , from the name of a former episcopal kitchen farm . Here was also the lower municipal bath room , which is attested in 1364 with magister Johannes balneator de inferiori balneo de Bozano and in 1496 with the indication of the old rusworm hawsl peym Vntern pad is localized.

During the time of the National Socialist occupation of South Tyrol from 1943 to 1945, when Bolzano was repeatedly the target of partly massive Allied air raids, several buildings on Gerbergasse were destroyed and only gradually rebuilt.

Gerbergasse is part of Bolzano's pedestrian zone .
