The Zepita district is located in the Chucuito Province in the Puno region in southern Peru . The district was founded in 1821. The district of Zepita has an area of ​​524 km² (according to other sources: 546 km²). The 2017 census counted 16,929 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 19,085, in 2007 19,796. Is the seat of the district to 3831  m high on the western shore of Wiñaymarka Lake qucha (Lago Huiñaymarca), the southern portion of the Titicacasees preferred location Zepita 1,503 inhabitants (2017). Zepita is 50 km southeast of the provincial capital July and 122 km southeast of the regional capital Puno .

Geographical location

The Zepita district is located in the Altiplano west of the Wiñaymarka qucha in the northeast of the Chucuito province. In the north of the district there is a mountain range up to 4800  m high. The Río Ccallaccame flows along the southern district border to the east to Laguna Aguallamaya, which is traversed by the Río Desaguadero . The national road 3S from Puno via Ilave to Desaguadero leads through the district and past the Zepita.

The Zepita district is bordered to the southeast by the district Desaguadero , on the south by the district Kelluyo , the west by the district Huacullani , in the northwest on the district Pomata and in the northeast to the districts Yunguyo and Copani (both in the province Yunguyo ).
