The Pisacoma district is located in the Chucuito Province in the Puno region in southern Peru . The district was founded in 1821. The Pisacoma District has an area of 959.34 km². The 2017 census counted 8223 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 8857, in 2007 it was 12,151. The administrative seat of the district is the 3915 m high village of Pisacoma with 1225 inhabitants (as of 2017). Pisacoma is 78 km south of the provincial capital July and just under 140 km south-southeast of the regional capital Puno .
Geographical location
The Pisacoma district is located in the Altiplano southwest of Lake Titicaca in the extreme south of the Chucuito province. Along the western border of the district runs a mountain range over 5000 m high, which forms the watershed between the catchment area of the Río Ilave in the west and that of the Río Desaguadero in the east.
The Pisacoma district borders in the west on the districts Capaso and Santa Rosa (both in the province of El Collao ), in the north on the district Huacullani and in the northeast on the district Kelluyo . In the southeast, the Pisacoma district borders on the Bolivian department of La Paz . There are the municipalities of San Andrés de Machaca ( Ingavi province ), Santiago de Machaca and Catacora (both in the José Manuel Pando province ).
