Gerd Mjøen Brantenberg (born October 27, 1941 in Oslo ) is a Norwegian teacher and author of feminist literature. Her best-known work is Egalias døtre ( The Daughters of Egalias ), which was published in 1977 by Pax Forlag, which later published Bahro, and has been sold over 150,000 times in Germany. The publishing house Olle & Wolter issued 15 editions. The plot of the book takes place in the fictional land of Egalia, in which women and femininity are regarded as the norm and men as the deviant, subordinate sex. All normally masculine words are converted into feminine and vice versa.

Brantenberg was born in Oslo, but grew up in Fredrikstad . She studied English, history and social sciences in London , Edinburgh and Oslo. From 1972 to 1983 she also worked in the women's shelter in Oslo. In 1978 she founded a women's literary forum that encourages women to write and publish. To date she has written ten novels, two plays and radio plays, two translations, various battle songs and contributions to anthologies.

In 1986 she received the Danish Thit Prize, which is named after the Danish author Thit Jensen .
