Gerd Jauch

Gerd Jauch (* 27. November 1924 in Villingen , † 10. March 2007 in Freiburg ) was a German television presenter and television journalist .

Professional activity

Gerd Jauch studied 1947-1951 jurisprudence . He worked as a freelance journalist throughout his studies and beyond until 1958. From 1957 to 1962 Jauch was editor of state politics at the German press agency . In 1962 he came to ZDF . There he built the news program today and headed the editorial department until 1969. He was then head of the legal and justice department and deputy head of the main social policy department. He also moderated the ZDF court show How would you decide for 16 years, which was first broadcast on February 11, 1974 ? and published on legal topics. His broadcast, in which real court hearings were re-enacted, belonged to a broadcast format in the 1980s (like the traffic court , marriages in court with Prof. Beer, labor court ) that aimed to educate citizens in everyday legal matters. These programs were characterized in particular by explanations from legal experts. In the following years , the format was replaced by the pseudo-documentary court shows, which have a purely fictional character. With his broadcast, Jauch contributed significantly to the understanding of law of the generation of that time in the Federal Republic.

In 1980 and 1985 the ZDF broadcast two documentaries by Gerd Jauch about the carnival in Villingen and Rottweil.

In 1989, he retired as head of the editorial team, which has since been renamed Social and Education Policy .
