Gerd Nufer

Gerd Nufer (born June 14, 1970 in Balingen ) is a German economist and sports economist. Since 2004 he has been Professor of Marketing , Sports Management and Trade at the ESB Business School at Reutlingen University , and he also heads the German Institute for Sports Marketing.

His teaching, research and consulting focuses are sports and event marketing, sponsoring / ambush marketing, marketing communication, marketing below the line / innovative marketing and international market research.

Career

After graduating from high school in Balingen, Nufer studied business administration at the University of Tübingen and at the State University of New York at Stony Brook (degree in business administration).

Parallel to his subsequent doctorate as Dr. rer. pole. he worked as a research assistant at the Chair of Marketing and the Research Department for International Marketing at the University of Tübingen. As part of his PhD, he received scholarships from San Diego State University and the University of San Diego . His dissertation (title: "Effects of Event Marketing. Theoretical Foundation and Empirical Analysis") was created in cooperation with adidas AG , Herzogenaurach.

Afterwards Nufer worked as a consultant / project manager for the management consultancy Simon-Kucher & Partners in Bonn. He then worked as a Marketing Consultant / Key Account Manager at Information Resources GfK in Nuremberg.

Since 2004 he has been Professor of General Business Administration with a focus on marketing, sports management and trade at the ESB Business School at Reutlingen University . In 2010 he completed his habilitation in sports economics and sports management at the German Sport University Cologne (title of the habilitation thesis: "Ambush Marketing in Sport. Scientific foundation and comparative empirical analysis of ambush marketing and sports sponsorship using the example of the 2006 FIFA World Cup").

Current activities

Today, parallel to his professorship at the ESB Business School at Reutlingen University, Nufer is director of the German Institute for Sports Marketing (together with André Bühler ) and heads the Institute for Marketing, Market Research & Communication at Reutlingen University. In addition, Nufer is the academic director of the part-time master’s degree program MA International Retail Management in cooperation with Aldi Süd and Hofer .

Nufer is editor of the book series "Sportmanagement" in Erich Schmidt Verlag and member of the editorial board of the scientific journal "Sciamus - Sport und Management". He also publishes the “Reutlingen Discussion Papers on Marketing & Management / Reutlingen Working Papers on Marketing & Management” and the series “Nachspielzeit” of the German Institute for Sports Marketing.

  • 2013: First prize for innovative teaching at ESB Business School Reutlingen
  • 2011: Nomination for the state teaching award Baden-Württemberg
  • 2010: Teaching award from ESB Business School and Reutlingen University
  • 2002: Dissertation award from RWT Reutlinger Wirtschaftstreuhand GmbH and the Friedrich List Foundation
