Gerda Hövel (born March 9, 1954 in Rheine ) is a German politician ( CDU ). She has been a member of the Lower Saxony State Parliament since February 19, 2013 .

Education, work and family

Gerda Hövel attended Emsland-Gymnasium and graduated from school in 1969 with a secondary school leaving certificate. She then completed an apprenticeship as a pharmaceutical technical assistant in Münster , which she completed in 1972. She then worked in various pharmacies until, after the birth of her daughter in 1984, she devoted herself entirely to the family. From January 2008 until her election to the state parliament in 2013, she worked again in her profession. She is a member of the rural women’s association in Melle and the Catholic women's community in Germany .

She is Roman Catholic , married and has one daughter.

politics

Hövel became a member of the CDU in 1991. In the CDU she was a member of the board of the local association Melle-Mitte and the city association Melle , from 1999 to 2007 she was chairman of the board of the local association, from 2007 of the city association. In addition, she was chairwoman of the Frauen Union Melle from 1995 to 1999 .

In 1996 she was elected to the city ​​council for the first time , and in 2009 she was chairman of the CDU parliamentary group. In Ortsrat Melle-Mitte it is represented since 1998, in 2001 it was local mayor of Melle-Mitte.

In May 2012 she was nominated by the CDU as the successor to Ernst-August Hoppenbrock, who was no longer running for reasons of age , for the Lower Saxony state election on January 20, 2013 as a direct candidate in the constituency of Melle . She won the constituency with 47.3% of the first votes and thus made it into the Lower Saxony state parliament.
