Gerda Steinhoff (born January 29, 1922 in Danzig -Langfuhr, † July 4, 1946 in Danzig, Stolzenberg ) was a German concentration camp guard in the Stutthof concentration camp .

Life

Gerda Steinhoff became a maid in Tygenhagen in 1939 , then worked in a bakery in Gdansk and became a tram conductor . She married in January 1944 and had a child.

In the same year she volunteered for service in the Stutthof concentration camp: until October 31, 1944, she was part of the SS guards in Stutthof SK III and supervised 400 prisoners. Then she became a head supervisor in the Danzig-Holm external labor camp and, from December 1944, in the Bromberg-Ost external labor camp, another sub-camp. In Stutthof she took part in selections and sent prisoners to the gas chamber . Shortly before the end of the war, she fled the camp and returned home. She was arrested on May 25, 1945.

In the first Stutthof trial she was sentenced to death by hanging along with ten co-defendants and hanged publicly on the Biskupia Górka ( Bischofsberg ) in front of a large audience together with Elisabeth Becker , Jenny Wanda Barkmann , Wanda Klaff and Ewa Paradies .
