Ewa paradise

Ewa Paradies (* 17th December 1920 in Lauenburg , Pomerania , † 4. July 1946 on the Bischofsberg in Gdansk ) was a German concentration camp - guard .

Life

Ewa Paradies left school in 1935 and then worked as a tram conductor in Wuppertal and Erfurt . She was Protestant and not married. From August 1944 she was trained as a concentration camp overseer for the SS in the Stutthof concentration camp . In October 1944 she was sent to the Bromberg-Ost external labor camp of the concentration camp and in January 1945 she was sent back to the main camp in Stutthof. In April 1945 she accompanied one of the last human transports of captured women to the Lauenburg external command, many of whom she murdered. Towards the end of the war she fled, but was discovered by Polish officers in Lauenburg in May 1945 and taken prisoner.

During the trial of the Stutthof concentration camp , several Holocaust survivors spoke of their cruelty and murders as witnesses. One witness reported in court:

“She ordered a group of female prisoners to undress in the freezing cold of winter and then poured freezing water over them. If the women moved, then paradise struck them. "

Ewa Paradies was sentenced to death by hanging on May 31, 1946 . On July 4, 1946 at 5 p.m., she was the last of five women, including Jenny Wanda Barkmann , Elisabeth Becker , Gerda Steinhoff and Wanda Klaff , to be hanged in public on the mountain Biskupia Górka (Bischofsberg) near Danzig . She was a Protestant Christian and spoke to the prison pastor before she died.
